Who is the target audience for this resource?  The target audience is all current students at Kirkwood Community College.
What are the services being offered by the resource?  Students with accommodations for testing.

Students who need to complete a makeup exam.

Distance learning courses who use proctored/computer testing.

Are there known barriers or stigma that may prevent students from accessing the resource? Barriers might include difficulty using register blast or using the website.

The process of applying for accommodations may be challenging for some students.

Stigma of taking the exam in a different location.

Stigma of how others may perceive the student if they are not taking the exam with the rest of the class.

Is there any data available regarding student perceptions/use of this resource? No recent data documented. This is a goal for Summer 2024. There is verbal feedback from students.

Physical Accessibility
Is the physical location accessible to the student population it serves? 3 Located in Cedar Hall. This is a central location for the majority of students.
Are the resource’s visual images adequate in clearly communicating services, etc.? 2 Signs posted in different locations on Campus.
Wayfinding signage leading to the resource is visible, high contrast, and easy to identify. 2 Signs posted in different locations on Campus.
Scheduling/Time Accessibility
Do the resource hours and timing of programming meet student needs? 3 Open Monday –Friday variable hours open at 0700 T-W-Th. Open until 8 pm on Thursday evenings. All hours listed on the website. Hours for the Coralville location are listed on the website.

The hours and needs are evaluated on a semester basis and as needed.

Does the resource offer an on-demand option for face-to-face and online students? 3 If an exam is online and requires a proctored exam. Face to face, students would take the exam in person in the test center.
Do students have the ability to easily self-schedule at a time convenient for them? 2 Students are able to call or use Register blast to schedule exam times. The students can also stop by the test center to schedule a time to test.
Digital Accessibility
Are available online resources easy to locate and user-friendly? 3 Yes on the website and in Register blast.
Are necessary print resources available in digital formats? 3 Flyers are available in the test center and in the Accommodations office Information available on Kirkwood Community College website.
Collaboration Support
Does the resource help students communicate, collaborate, work, or share information about  academic content? 2 This is not a service that collaboration among students would be expected. The staff and students collaborate and work together. The resource also works with the Accommodations office along with the faculty member for the students.

 

Multilingual Accessibility
Does the resource currently provide or have access to translation tools  or reference materials in commonly spoken languages by Kirkwood ELLs? 2 No translation available for the students to test at this time on the Kirkwood Community College campus.

The Coralville campus works with a large ELL population and they have a language line that can be utilized.

 

Does the resource use clear language and avoid jargon? 2 Yes
Feedback 
Is there a system in place for students and staff to provide feedback on services? 1 Planning to implement survey for students Summer 2024. The plan is to use a survey.
Is there a process for periodic reviews of the resource and ongoing improvement? 1 Review needs of students and instructors. Work with areas that use the test center. Meet with departments that do not utilize to identify any needs they have.

Does the resource actively engage with traditionally underserved populations? 2 Meet with and provide accommodations to all students.

Looking into a trial of virtual testing for students who are unable to get to campus.

HESI testing, TEAS testing an ELA placement done in the test center.

Does the resource take measures to ensure traditionally underserved populations feel welcome? 2 Greet students when they come in to the test center. Assist students with what they can.
Are there events and activities that promote inclusivity? N/A Describe any events or initiatives related to inclusivity.
Are staff trained in cultural competence and inclusivity? 2 Trainings offered in NeoEd by the college.
Communication/Marketing
Which channels of communication are used to share services/programs 3 Website and flyers.

Does the resource market itself to students appropriately? 3 It is available to help students with testing accommodation needs. These students get information and utilize the service. Students know this service is available if they need to use.
