Kirkwood On Demand FAQs
What are on Kirkwood on demand trainings?
In Fall 2023, a survey was sent to all faculty regarding confidence across several key areas related to Quality Instruction and delivery preferences. While many faculty prefer face-to-face trainings, we have found that attending these can be difficult due to class schedules. Also, we know that finding time to prioritize professional development/training during the semester can be a challenge. Asynchronous, self paced delivery method was a close second. Therefore, the Academic Innovation, Strategy, and Design department has put together a library of self-paced, on demand training sessions aligned with key areas of focus from the confidence survey that can be completed on your schedule.
How much time will courses take to complete?
All on-demand courses are designed to take approximately 60 minutes including content and a final assignment. The final assignment is designed to help you reflect upon the content and create a meaningful take-away that can help improve your courses.
How do I register for trainings?
The training library is available through Discover in Talon. Please see this section for more information and a tutorial for enrolling in these courses. You do NOT need to register through NeoEd. When you enroll through Discover, the course will appear on your main Talon homepage.
Do I earn professional renewal for completing these trainings?
YES! One hour of professional renewal will be automatically be awarded upon completion of each course for full time faculty. You do not need to submit the application.
Will I be graded?
No. These courses are considered “completed” once the final assignment is submitted. Feedback will generally not be provided on final assignments unless requested. For the most part, these courses are not facilitated.
How do I unenroll?
Please see the tutorial for unenrolling here. You may unenroll at any time with or without completing. However, if you do complete the course, please do not unenroll before you receive confirmation of course completion.
Can I help create an on-demand offering?
YES! This was created to be a faculty-led platform. We need your content and expertise to make this successful! Please consider sHARING content for a one hour course. You do not need to do the building – the Instructional Design team will do that part for you. You will take on the role of the subject matter expert and provide the content. As a bonus, for providing content you’ll earn an hour of professional renewal. Proposed content needs to adhere to the following guidelines:
- Proposed courses must align with key areas of Quality Instruction and approved by the Dean of Academic Innovation, Strategy and Design.
- Content should be appropriate and engaging for asynchronous environment. You’ll work with one of the Instructional Designers to help you identify content that would fit this type of environment.
- A final assignment that provides participants with a meaningful takeaway should be provided to complete the course. Some examples might include a written reflection, modified content, modified policies, worksheet completion, videos, etc… Objective quizzing may be appropriate in some specific situations, but is generally not recommended. The goal of these trainings is to provide participants with practical takeaways that can help improve teaching/learning and not compliance.
