3 Advance Communication with Students
Upon registering for the course, (if you have opted for Day 1: Digital Access), students will have received an email containing a code. Students do occasionally have trouble finding this code or may experience difficulty when they register late for a course. If a student cannot find the code, they can be directed to Shelley.Black@kirkwood.edu, who can provide them with the necessary code.
It is recommended to communicate this in advance of the course start date. Below is a sample message that can be used to communicate this process to students.
Welcome! My name is _________ and I will be your instructor. A portion of this course will require you to deliver online presentations. We will be using a program called PitchVantage to submit these assignments. Below you will find instructions on accessing the program and getting started! To get started you will need to have access to your student email along with the section number for our course _______.
Step 1:You should have gotten an email from the Kirkwood bookstore. If you can’t find it, you may want to search for “Day 1 Digital.” This will only be in your Kirkwood email. This email will contain instructions and most importantly an access code. If you cannot locate the access code, please reach out to your instructor.
Step 2: Your next step will be to locate the Pitchvantage link on our course homepage. (Provide specific instructions as to where you have placed the link provided by PV). You will then be asked to select your section number. Your course section number is ____.
Step 3: Once you have selected your course number, you will be asked to enter your PitchVantage Code. Once you have done this, you will have access to the speaking assignments that you will complete throughout the course.
*Please note: If you see an error message saying your code has already been used, you will likely just need to log out and sign back in.
Step 4: This is optional! If you would like to record your speeches on your phone or tablet, you may want to download the PitchVantage app and will be able to log in with your username and password.
