36 What is an Annotated Bibliography?
Rachel Winchel
What is an annotated bibliography? An annotated bibliography is a document that contains sources that you summarize. The purpose of an annotated bibliography is to create an organized document with summaries of sources that you might use later on in a major research project. When you are doing research, you may encounter dozens if not more sources and writing annotations is a great way to remember if the source is useful for you or not.
The annotated bibliography has to be in MLA format. An excellent source for you to use is at the Purdue Online Writing Lab, Purdue OWL.
