Intercultural Communication

Unit Outcome: Recognize the ways perception of self, others, and culture impact communication.

In our connected society, you are now able to easily communicate with anyone across the world as if they are sitting right next to you.  Because we are so connected to others worldwide, we need to be aware of and be able to respect cultural differences in communication.  In this unit, we will look at some basic concepts of intercultural communication.

  • Define Intercultural communication
  • Describe the challenges of communicating across cultures
  • Explain Hofstede’s dimensions of Culture
  • Apply Hofstede’s dimensions to everyday situations
